Canines providing emotional support in and around the Lehigh Valley

We are a group of volunteers whose primary objective is to provide comfort and emotional support by sharing our personal dogs with people in nursing homes, hospitals, assisted living facilities, libraries, schools, colleges, airports, other institutions and the general public. Each of our volunteers has trained their dog, had their dog evaluated and then registered and insured with Alliance of Therapy Dogs in Cheyenne, Wyoming. Our dogs help increase emotional well-being, promote healing, and improve the quality of life. Visits from our dogs stimulate conversations and memories for the people we visit. We also participate in public relation activities in order to promote our purpose, improve awareness, and increase participation in this rewarding work. We are a registered 501c3 non-profit organization.

Lehigh Valley Therapy Dogs have a schedule of over 25 facilities that are visited on a regular/scheduled basis as well as responding to extra visits that typically come in through the website. In 2023 we responded to over 50 special request visits. During the worst of the Covid-19 pandemic, our volunteers continued with visits when/where permitted and increased the number of visits specifically for the health care staff in these facilities.

Our Members provide this emotional stress relief pet therapy at no cost to the individual or facility. They can select and visit any facility that permits therapy dogs to visit. But, they must complete at least 1 visit every 3 months.

Our group does an annual fundraiser, Drive Thru Paw-sta Dinner held at the Lehigh Lodge on Rt 100 in Macungie. Our members prepare on the premises and serve a hearty meal of pasta, home-made sauce, meatballs, salad with dressing, bread and dessert. This drive-thru event is held the first Saturday in November each year. All orders must be submitted in advance. Don’t miss it.

Sharing our dogs with the community brings joy and smiles not only to the individuals we visit but to the dog and the handler as well.
